Rules show or hide properties based on the shopper’s answers. Extra price adds a charge for a personalization choice. Together, they let you offer optional services such as engraving without asking every shopper to complete irrelevant fields.

Show a field only when it is needed

For optional engraving:

  1. Add a Switch labeled “Add engraving”. Leave it off by default.
  2. Add a Text box labeled “Engraving text”. Set an appropriate character limit.
  3. Open the template’s Rules and create a rule targeting the text property.
  4. Choose Show and a condition that checks whether the engraving switch is on. For a Switch, the rule editor represents on/off through whether the value is empty or not empty.
  5. Save and test both states in Preview.

A rule can match All conditions or Any condition. Use All when every requirement must hold, such as a particular material and engraving enabled. Use Any when one of several selections is enough.

Keep rules understandable. Use descriptive names and test the final visibility when more than one rule affects a property. If a condition depends on a linked Shopify option, check products with different values or without that option.

Decide what the charge pays for

Shopify’s variant price remains the price of the selected product variant. JUNO’s extra prices add personalization charges where configured.

Setting When it applies
Placement Extra price When the shopper fills in that property.
Choice Extra price Once when that choice is used, in addition to applicable per-option prices.
Switch Extra price Only while the switch is on.
Range slider Extra price Once whenever the slider is shown; a slider always has a value.
Design-specific price For the selected design; otherwise the Design property’s Extra price is used, if set.

For the engraving example, charge on the Switch if enabling the service should trigger the fee. Charge on the Text box if filling in the text should trigger it. Avoid setting both unless you intend to charge for two distinct things.

An Extra price is a configured amount, not an automatic per-character, per-centimeter or area-based calculation. A Range slider does not multiply the fee by its selected value.

Check the complete purchase

Try the base product, every paid option and the return to an unpaid state. Follow the configuration through Add to cart and a test checkout to confirm the selected variant, total and order details.

Also test a required field that is hidden by a rule, and combinations of multiple extras. These checks catch unclear labels and unintended double charges before shoppers encounter them.

Availability and limits depend on your plan. Use the plan prompts in the app when a setting is locked.
