A property is a field in the personalizer: something the shopper selects, types or uploads. JUNO has 16 property types: 8 Choice and 8 Placement.
Start with the information you need from the shopper. Then choose the control that makes that decision easiest to understand.
Choice properties
Choice properties collect selections without placing text or artwork on the product. A linked choice can change the selected Shopify variant and, through Product views, the product photo. The control itself is not printed on the product.
| Property | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Dropdown | One selection from a longer list, such as size or finish. |
| Radio | One selection from a short list that should stay visible. |
| Checkbox list | Several independent extras or preferences. |
| Color swatch | A choice represented by a solid color. |
| Image swatch | Material, texture or finish samples from a swatch palette. |
| Button | Compact labeled choices, with single or multiple selection. |
| Switch | An on/off choice, such as adding engraving. |
| Range slider | A numeric choice within a defined range. |
Linked or manual?
For list-based choices, Linked Shopify product option reads the selected product’s own values, such as Color, Material or Size. This lets the same template adapt to different products. Sold-out values are disabled; a product without the linked option does not show that choice.
Leave the option unlinked when you want to supply the choices yourself, such as packaging preferences. A manual choice does not create a new Shopify variant or inventory record. Switch has two states, and Range slider uses numeric bounds rather than a product-option list.
Use single selection for a Shopify variant option: a shopper buys one size or material combination for each configured item. Multiple selection is better suited to independent extras.
Placement properties
Most Placement properties put the shopper’s content directly on a product photo. You control where it appears and how it looks.
| Property | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Text box | Names, initials, short messages and engraving text. |
| Comment | A note sent with the order; never drawn on the product. |
| Arc text | Text following a curved baseline. |
| Date picker | Birthdays, anniversaries and other dates. |
| File upload | A shopper’s own photo or artwork. |
| Design | Artwork the shopper chooses from your Design set. |
| Time picker | A time, such as the time of birth on a keepsake. |
| Number box | A number, optionally with decimals and a unit. |
There are exceptions to placement on the product. Comment is always an order note. Date picker, Time picker and Number box can also send information only with the order when Show on product is off.
Put the pieces together
For a personalized blanket, you might use Image swatch for material, Color swatch for color and Text box for the child’s name. Product views supply the matching blanket photo; the text placement draws the name over it.
For an optional engraving, use Switch to ask whether the shopper wants engraving, Text box to collect the words and a rule to show the text field only when engraving is enabled.
For artwork, decide who supplies it: Design offers your prepared collection; File upload accepts the shopper’s own image. Image swatch shows a sample of an option, such as leather, rather than placing that sample as artwork.
Make each field easy to complete
Give properties clear shopper-facing labels: “Name on blanket” is more useful than “Text 1”. Use descriptions for instructions such as a character limit or the meaning of a measurement. Make a field required only when you cannot fulfill the order without it.
Preview long names, empty optional fields and every rule branch. A property looking correct in the editor is only the start; test what a shopper can actually enter.
