This guide takes you from installing JUNO to a product shoppers can personalize. You need access to your Shopify admin, a compatible Online Store 2.0 theme and a product with clear photos.
Start with one product and one simple personalization, such as a name on a blanket. You can expand the template after you have tested the complete order.
1. Install and enable JUNO
Install JUNO from the Shopify App Store. Choose the plan that fits your initial catalog; you can review allowances on the Pricing page.
In JUNO’s setup guide, choose Turn on Juno in your live theme. Shopify’s theme editor opens with Juno Personalizer enabled. Save the theme, then return to JUNO.
The embed adds the Customize button to products with active, assigned templates. By default, it replaces the theme’s native product options and buy buttons on those products. See Customize button for appearance and placement settings.
2. Choose your preview product
Create a template and choose the product you will design on. This is the preview product, and JUNO automatically assigns the template to it.
Keep the template in Draft while you build. Choose a product with the Shopify options and photo angles you need, such as Color, Material and a front view. Read Templates & products before reusing the design across a larger catalog.
3. Prepare the product photos
Open Product views and map the product’s photos to the views and option values they represent. For a simple product, one front photo may be enough. For a blanket offered in several colors, assign the matching photo for each color.
If you want photo samples in your material selector, prepare a Swatch palette too. These are separate jobs: product views show the product; swatches represent the choices in the selector.
Follow the Product views and Swatch palettes guides for setup.
4. Add the shopper’s choices and personalization
In the template editor, use Add to choose properties:
- Add a Choice property for an option such as Color or Size. Link it to the corresponding Shopify product option so JUNO reads the product’s values.
- Add a Text box for the name or message. Give it a clear label and position it on the photo.
- Set the typography and a suitable character limit. Enter Preview text to check the layout; this does not prefill the shopper’s answer.
- Mark fields Required only when you need an answer to fulfill the order.
- Save the template.
The property chooser compares all 16 types and links to their setup guides. Add Design or File upload when you want artwork, and use Rules when some fields should appear only after a particular choice.
5. Review desktop and mobile
Group related fields into steps and check each step’s product view. Use the Desktop and Mobile layouts to keep the experience comfortable on both screen sizes.
Open Preview and behave like a shopper: change options, enter a long name and leave optional fields empty. If you added rules or extra prices, test every branch and confirm the displayed total.
6. Activate and test on your store
Set the template to Active. The preview product is already assigned; use the template’s Products tab when you want to assign more products.
Open the product on your storefront and choose Customize. Complete the personalization, add it to the cart and place a test order. Check the selected variant, personalization details and any uploaded or print files on the order.
If you produce from a print file, configure and calibrate the print areas and check a sample through your production process. Read Orders & print files before taking live orders.
Where to go next
Reuse the template on similar products, add optional paid personalization with Rules & extra pricing, or explore the use cases to see how properties work together.
