A Dropdown lets shoppers select one value from a list that opens when they interact with it. It is useful when you have enough options that displaying all of them at once would make the form hard to scan.

A Dropdown is a Choice property. It does not place text on the product. When linked to a Shopify product option, it selects from the values on the product being customized.

How to set it up

  1. In the template editor, open Add and choose Dropdown under Choice.
  2. Give it a clear Label, such as “Size” or “Finish”. Add a description if shoppers need help choosing.
  3. Under Linked Shopify product option, select the matching option to read its values. Leave it unlinked and add your own values for a manual choice.
  4. Review the values and Default value. Enable Required if the shopper must answer.
  5. Place the property in the appropriate step, or turn on Global if it should be available on every step. Save and Preview.

Frequent uses

  • Clothing sizes with a longer range of labels.
  • Ring sizes or a catalog of finishes.
  • A manually configured packaging preference.

For just two or three choices that shoppers should compare immediately, consider Radio or Button.

Check before publishing

Check that the default is a sensible starting point and that all labels fit on mobile. If linked to Shopify, preview another assigned product to confirm its own options appear. A manual list does not automatically change the Shopify variant.
